The Order of Nurses, Midwives and Medical Assistants in Romania (OAMGMAMR) is the competent authority (along with The Ministry of Health) in Romania, founded on the basis of a law, Emergency Ordinance 144/2008, which represents the regulatory body and the professional requirements of nurses, medical assistants and midwives throughout Romania.
Through these laws, our organization defined, for the first time in Romania, the status of the professions of nurse, medical assistant and midwife.
Emergency Ordinance 144/2008 states that OAMGMAMR is the Romanian competent authority, along with the Ministry of Health, with which they collaborate in elaborating the legislative acts regarding the professions of nurse, medical assistant and midwife, documents that are related to organizing professional courses as well as to establishing the norms and standards of practice.
OAMGMAMR keeps a record of all the nurses, medical assistants and midwives in Romania that are listed in the Unique National Register.
According to thE law, OAMGMAMR is a professional jurisdiction organism, the sole Romanian organization in this field that has the right to judge professional errors made by nurses, medical assistants and midwives in Romania (good character of the professional).
We have also elaborated the first Code of Ethics and Deontology of the nurses, medical assistants and midwives in Romania, approved by our Ministry of Health.
OAMGMAMR is the sole organization that provides nurses, medical assistants and midwives in Romania with free practice certificates (Certificat de membru), document that grant them the right to exercise their profession. Without the membership certificates from OAMGMAMR, the nurses, medical assistants and midwives in our country do not have the right to practice their profession.
OAMGMAMR is the sole professional organization of nurses, medical assistants and midwives in Romania that has prerogatives on professional development of nurses, medical assistants and midwives. OAMGMAMR has initiated in 2004 a national program of continual medical education for its members.
The members of our organization receive a number of 30 credits for attending training courses, seminars, congresses, etc.
The Order of Nurses Midwives and Medical Assistants in Romania (OAMGMAMR) is a professional and regulatory organization, with the role of developing rules and standards of practice for nurses, midwives and medical assistants, so as the professionals provide quality services, in terms of safety and security.
The Order authorizes the profession, records in its data base all the nurses, midwives and medical assistants practicing in Romania, and also judges any deviations from the rules of ethics and conduct.
All the actions of the Order, since its establishment until present, were primarily focused on the professional needs of its members, aiming at the regulation and development of the profession of nurses.
